Canoe Trip This SUNDAY!

UPDATE!! UPDATE!! UPDATE!!

I've spoken with everyone who was able to go tomorrow and we are going to postpone the canoeing for exactly 7 days until Sunday September 26th for the following reasons.

I'll update more information here on the fixed and better plan for next Sunday, hopefully if you saw this and weren't able to make it tomorrow, you'll be able to next Sunday.

russian_river1.jpg So this year not much notice, but it's still gonna be fun. Canoeing on the Russian River this Sunday, September 19th. Go ahead and comment here if you are a go and if so who you want to pair up with and I'll post updates so people can see who'll be there.

Questions and Answers

  • When : September 13th, 2004 around Noon until around 5 or 6PM. The trip down the river takes 4 or 5 hours assuming we take some time to swim and eat lunch and stuff.
  • Where : Forrestville, CA
  • Where exactly : Where Mirabel Rd runs into River Rd in Forrestville. Here's a satellite image.
  • How much : Each canoe and paddles and life jackets is 50$ (up from 45$ last year). Each canoe has 2 seats so 2 people can paddle. The typical set up is for 2 people to share a canoe and each of them paddle being 25$ each (cash only, no credit). If 3 people want to join up to cut costs or because one person is lazy, and have 2 people paddle and one person sit in the middle of the canoe and hang out. If anyone wants to do the 3 person thing let me know and I'll give you suggestions about how to do it.
  • How long does it take to get to Forrestville : About an hour and 15 minutes.
  • Where are we going to leave from : We can caravan in multiple cars and we'll meet at the SafeWay parking lot at Church and Market. This way we'll be able to park and assemble.
  • What time are we going to leave from Safeway : We'll head out at 10AM, try to get to Safeway at 9:30 to 9:45 cause we aint waitin'. Make sure to eat breakfast before you come over or bring/buy some food to eat on the drive up, canoeing takes a lot of energy. If you're planning on shopping at SafeWay, DON'T arrive at 9:30. Arrive before so you've got time to shop for food and then head out with everybody.
  • How do I contact Gene if I have questions : Call me on my cell phone at 415 722 9846 or email me.
  • What should I bring : (Listed in Order of Importance)

So Vital that failing to bring these items, means you shouldn't go at all.

    • 25$ in cash
    • River shoes (Tivas, or some kind of sandle shoe that you can get wet, and still wear and that you can climb on rocky river bottom with. Old shoes work.)
    • Sunscreen

    Important

    • Lunch to go in the cooler
    • Drinks (it's gonna be hot and you will get very thirsty. Bottled water is a good idea) [No glass]
    • Change of clothes to leave in the car so you don't have to ride home wet.

    A good idea.

    • A hat.
    • clothes that you don't mind getting wet in
    • sunglasses
    • a pack to put your water bottles in and BUNGEE CHORDS to attach it to that canoe, so you don't lose it when the canoe tips over.
I will bring a cooler and bungee chords to put in my canoe to keep the lunch. If someone else wants to bring a cooler and bungee chords, then we can fit more stuff. Optional however.
  • Where can I find more information on this : Check out the place that we're going, Burke's Canoe Trips

Who's going

I'll update this with the pairs of people as they get decided.

He'll be there if I have to drag him every mile of the way.

Posted by: Dianna at September 13, 2004 02:52 PM

Danny/Brian and Swiss/Mike. We're both going, and we'll take one canoe with everything, but hold the pickles, thanks.

Posted by: Danny at September 13, 2004 02:54 PM

Wait, so you want 1 canoe for all 4 of you? or 2 canoes for 4?

Posted by: gene at September 13, 2004 03:07 PM

Oh.

There's only 2 of you.

but 4 names

I get it.

Posted by: gene at September 13, 2004 03:08 PM

i'm there, with michele and jason in my canoe i think. (this exciting threesome can be split into a convenient two-and-onesome if anyone is stranded partnerless.)

Hot Kristen-on-Michele-on-Jason action!

Posted by: Dianna at September 13, 2004 04:01 PM

I wish I could go! Could someone leave the middle spot of their canoe open for me, and the ghost of Kim will join you?

Posted by: kim at September 13, 2004 04:35 PM

It's a deal! We will miss you very very much.

Posted by: gene at September 13, 2004 04:39 PM

remember, paddle hard through the turns. keep your mouth closed through swarming gnats.
sorry, i can't attend -- the bath houses of budapest call. i'll be practicing my water skills there.

Posted by: marc at September 14, 2004 09:01 AM

oops, sorry. i often get christine and jacob confused.

if i cannot finish my paper beforehand, there is a good chance that michele and christine will be canoeing without me.

Posted by: didofoot at September 15, 2004 08:52 AM

apparently you also get jacob and jason confused quite often.

Posted by: michele at September 15, 2004 09:14 AM

Could we plan a trip that doesn't involve fresh water and/or forrests? I wish I could go to these things more often, and I don't think it's just school that's holding me back. Have a good time!

Posted by: Kristina at September 15, 2004 10:07 AM

i am retarded. public penance.

Posted by: didofoot at September 15, 2004 10:36 AM

i throw fruit at you in the stocks.

Posted by: michele at September 15, 2004 11:09 AM

You're fighting a Sushi Canoer

She gets the jump on you.

She tries to fruit you in the stocks, but misses.

Posted by: Danny at September 16, 2004 01:40 PM

You summon a Wave of Chutney, which drowns her in the products of her own fruit for 30 damage.

You win the fight!

You gain 25 Meat.

You gain an item: Mushy Peach.

Posted by: Dianna at September 16, 2004 01:46 PM

i'll mushy peach you.

Posted by: michele at September 16, 2004 02:23 PM

Gene, you might want to update that again: you're currently partnerless. Christine is now spending the weekend in LA.

Posted by: Danny at September 17, 2004 12:49 PM

he's in seattle.

christine, you are leaving us?! i am so sad. =(

Posted by: michele at September 17, 2004 02:19 PM

Also, in case anyone hasn't noticed, we will be canoeing on Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Posted by: Danny at September 17, 2004 03:36 PM

Danny/Dianna - [reminiscently] Ahh, Food Fight... That really takes me back.

Christine - [disappointedly] Sorry to hear you won't make it! But here's hoping you have a good time in the City of Angels.

Sean - [maniacally] Muahahaha.

Posted by: ivan at September 17, 2004 03:53 PM

Shiver me timbers! Aye, old Danny Pegleg speaks true he does, me hearties. I'll be stocking the rum, perhaps ye might bring a jolly shanty for going on the account, mates.

Message received. We've been trying to call your phone, but have gotten an "all circuits busy" signal for the last hour. Strange.

Posted by: Jacob at September 18, 2004 10:27 PM

I am running for breast cancer at 8:30 that morning at Crissy Field. It's just a 5K, but it may prevent me from canoeing, depending on our schedule. Think of my tireless efforts if there are bikinis involved.
