First "Hero" now "Hoax"

First media and government redefine the word "hero", which used to mean something very different from it's current usage. Now it looks like the word "hoax" is under attack. Last time I checked a hoax was "An act intended to deceive or trick; Something that has been established or accepted by fraudulent means". How is putting up LED displays of cartoon characters deceptive, a trick, or fraudulent? I mean is the idea that these guys were actually trying to convince people that the cartoon character, Err , had come to life and manifested himself as an LED display?

1984 arrived 17 years late.

I guess the "hoax" tag was because authorities believed the boards were INTENDED to look like bombs?

What the hell do bombs look like these days if you could confuse an LED display for one? Super Bomber Man 2 is clearly way, way out of date.

My final question: is that picture supposed to be of a cartoon character raising its middle finger as the article states? Because, um...it has no fingers.

What, you expect the police to *admit* their mistakes?

Thank you for bringing back comments!

There are other LEDs that are more clearly the Mooninites giving the finger, but that doesn't render the LED boards any more bomb-like.

What I'm worried about is the poor guy who was hired by the marketing company to hang the boards and who has now been arrested on felony criminal charges. There's been talk of making him reimburse the city for the cost of their big dumb freak-out, something like $500,000.

I, too, would like to thank you for bringing back comments.

Funnily and interestingly (but NOT ironically), this new movie trailer appeared on Apple's website today, getting the word absolutely correct.
