So this Sunday, as predicted looks to be a whole lot better then last Sunday. 87 degrees, Sunny, no rain. It's gonna rock. Here are the specifics.
Questions and Answers
- When : September 26th, 2004 around Noon until around 5 or 6PM. The trip down the river takes 4 or 5 hours assuming we take some time to swim and eat lunch and stuff.
- Where : Forrestville, CA
- Where exactly : Where Mirabel Rd runs into River Rd in Forrestville. Here's a satellite image.
- How much : Each canoe and paddles and life jackets is 50$ (up from 45$ last year). Each canoe has 2 seats so 2 people can paddle. The typical set up is for 2 people to share a canoe and each of them paddle being 25$ each (cash only, no credit). If 3 people want to join up to cut costs or because one person is lazy, and have 2 people paddle and one person sit in the middle of the canoe and hang out. If anyone wants to do the 3 person thing let me know and I'll give you suggestions about how to do it.
- How long does it take to get to Forrestville : About an hour and 15 minutes.
- Where are we going to leave from : We can caravan in multiple cars and we'll meet at the SafeWay parking lot at Church and Market. This way we'll be able to park and assemble. If you don't live in Berkeley/Oakland or the City, you may want to go directly there and meet us at the site.
- What time are we going to leave from Safeway : We'll head out at 10AM, try to get to Safeway at 9:30 to 9:45 cause we aint waitin'. Make sure to eat breakfast before you come over or bring/buy some food to eat on the drive up, canoeing takes a lot of energy. If you're planning on shopping at SafeWay, DON'T arrive at 9:30. Arrive before so you've got time to shop for food and then head out with everybody.
- How do I contact Gene if I have questions : Call me on my cell phone at 415 722 9846 or email me.
- What should I bring : (Listed in Order of Importance)
So Vital that failing to bring these items, means you shouldn't go at all.
- 25$ in cash
- River shoes (Tivas, or some kind of sandle shoe that you can get wet, and still wear and that you can climb on rocky river bottom with. Old shoes work.)
- Sunscreen
Important
- Lunch to go in the cooler
- Drinks (it's gonna be hot and you will get very thirsty. Bottled water is a good idea) [No glass]
- Change of clothes to leave in the car so you don't have to ride home wet.
A good idea.
- A hat.
- clothes that you don't mind getting wet in
- sunglasses
- a pack to put your water bottles in and BUNGEE CHORDS to attach it to that canoe, so you don't lose it when the canoe tips over.
I will bring a cooler and bungee chords to put in my canoe to keep the lunch. If someone else wants to bring a cooler and bungee chords, then we can fit more stuff. Optional however.

I’ll say it again. Dianna and Jacob, if I have to drag him from our house to the river myself.
please put down me and kristen, (assuming you are still my canoe buddy, kristen?)
and also jason and erik.
yeah buddy! buddy buddy buddy.
i am open to a third in our canoe if anyone is feeling stranded. a fourth, if they are small. five will not be considered.
If swinging by the Presidio en route to the river is still feasible, I would still like to be Gene’s partner, as sweaty and exhausted as I might be.
i am open to a third if their names are christine or kati vol. or jason if anderson abandons him. that slut.
p.s. operation ‘get sean!’ in effect.
Sweet! As a courtesy to my automobiling partners, Operation Change of Clothes will also be in effect, with support provided by the Old Spice strike brigade.
the black-ops Operation Push Sean In The River will be put in effect in the event of those other two ops failing.
uh…my car CAN hold 5 (including me). but i think comfort level demands 4.
anderson has a small pick-up truck (i think) which will hold 2.
ditto for the audi: comfort level is definitely 4 only.
particularly depending on what car sean is in. comfort smell level could be impacted here.
If anyone needs/wants a ride, my car will hold one passenger comfortably with the top down. Also, relatively small people who *really* like the wind in their hair (I mean a lot) are welcome to ride in the back seat. I am coming back to SF afterwards.
ooh ooh! good point. i might not be coming back to SF afterwards. in fact, i won’t be. phill though.

You know, I really worry about people who sign things with their pets’ names.
whoops for posting twice and whoops for not changing my name.
whoop it up, yokels.
Whoop whoop!
*raises the roof*
whoop, there it is!
I’m coming too! And I will sit in Michele and Kristen’s canoe like we planned all that misty time ago, though I want to paddle. I can drive too if we need more SF-bound cars, but you should really be 5’7″ or under to sit in the back seat.
you can paddle, i won’t stop you.
Christine, only two people per canoe can paddle (cause that’s how many oars we get).
Gene, I just want to point out that while my car might be considered a bit “sporty,” it is not actually a “sports car”… it doesn’t have enough chrome.
Someone should check in with that sporty bastard Dustin. Forestville is an emerging real estate market, after all.
Inflatable Supermodels Dustin and Zack are in, as is non-Inflatable Girlfriend Keri. Now it’s *really* gonna rock.
Swiss and I in one canoe. Two paddles, a pack and a mohair sweater.
Thanks everyone for coming, I had a great time. Can’t wait till next year.
We should do this end-of-the-season thing more often. Low water be damned, it’s nice not having 4239532652934 people around.
(With apologies to everyone who flopped ass-first into 2 feet of water, of course.)
I had fun too, thanks for the memories people! 🙂 I’ll publish my disposable camera pics soon.
me too. and by soon, i mean maybe sunday. saturday if you’re lucky.
