I was wondering why you used different syntax in the “terrorists” search than in the “voters” search, so I tried it myself using the same search phrasing for both. The results were interesting (and, I suspect, explain why you did it the way that you did).
There’s no shortage of results for terrorists and the sending of clear messages, but they don’t appear to be the ones doing the sending.
Exactly. I was trying to do more complex subject object stuff but couldn’t get google to do back flips, so that’s as good as I could get it.
Also: Falun Gong, primary elections, sanctions on Iran and Libya, and Toshiba are all apparently quite clear.
Nifty wildcard search courtesy of a Google Blog post about fill-in-the-blank searches. The example mentioned in the post (Glasgow is the ____ capital of Europe) is also quite a good one to try.
Quotes get rid of pages that happen to have the words send clear and message in different places.
It looks like only the voters sent an unclear message, or specifically, the defeat of two different initiatives about prescription drugs sent an unclear message. It’s unclear who the senders or recipients of this unclear message were.
